Continuing in the tough AL Central with Detroit Tigers…
Biggest Additions: Victor Martinez, Joaquin Benoit, Brad Penny
Biggest Subtractions: Armando Galarraga, Johnny Damon, Jeremy Bonderman, Gerald Laird
Offseason Review: The Tigers were the first team to make an offseason splash by signing V-Mart. They remained relatively quiet for most of the rest of the offseason. The Penny signing allowed them to trade Armondo Galarraga (you know, the guy that got screwed out of a perfect game) for pitching prospects, which tells me that they weren’t very high on the guy that got screwed out of a perfect game in the first place. And it shouldn’t go unnoticed, they kept Brandon Inge, Magglio Ordonez and Jhonny Peralta
Season Preview: Recent troubles with 1B Miguel Cabrera have rightly given Tiger fans something to worry about, and I have a feeling it is going to take its toll on the team before the season is up. While I like the addition of Penny, if he can stay healthy, I don’t think the bottom part of their starters are all that great.
Final Record: 86-76, 3rd in the AL Central
