I’ve seen a glut of movies in the last couple of weeks, which is good… because I wanted to. However, there were few movies that looked as good to me as this one when I started watching the trailers.
Plot Summary
Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a prequel for the Planet of the Apes series which originally came out in 1968 starring Charlton Heston, and was remade in 2001 with Marky Mark… errr… Mark Wahlberg. If you’ve watched the trailer, you know what it is about. It’s about a chimpanzee by the name of Caesar who is incredibly smart – through unnatural processes – and leads an ape revolution… or is it?
Review
I have to say, this is one of my Top 2 movies of the summer to this point. I really liked Captain America, and I really liked this one. Of the two, I’m not sure which one I liked better, so that’s saying a lot. It is definitely better than any other movie that I have seen this summer, and, if you’ve been following the blog this summer, you know that I’ve seen quite a few. The story is great. The characters are interesting, and watching it unfold is amazing. All this AND the effects are incredible.
Recommendation
As you can probably imagine, I definitely recommend seeing it. In fact, you should probably stop reading this right now and get to your closest theater. It’s one of the few movies that I would pay full price to see again, that’s how much I liked it.
Best Part
There are a lot of nods to the original, which are certain to make you smile. The opening scene is a major nod to the opening of the original, and Tom Felton gets to repeat Heston’s memorable line: “Get your hands off me, you damn, dirty ape!”
